New website to Gather travellers to Ireland

first_imgSource = e-Travel Blackboard: N.J is the new international website set to promote tourism to Ireland, the country’s tourism body launching the site across the globe this month.Ireland’s Minister for Tourism Leo Varadkar said the site is “crucial” in promoting The Gathering 2013.“[The site has] been designed to capitalise on the increasingly central role of the internet in travel and holiday planning, and the phenomenal growth of social media,” Mr Varadkar said.An Australian Tourism Ireland spokesperson told e-Travel Blackboard that while there is “nothing concrete”, the tourism body is looking to also redevelop its trade site this year.Costing up to €3 million (AU$3.8 million) to build, including €500,000 (AU$644450) to purchase the domain name from the Irish Times, the website features more than 1,700 images of Ireland, accommodation and flight deals as well as information on upcoming Gathering events across the country. Late last year, Minister Varadkar told e-Travel Blackboard, The Gathering 2013 was designed to attract travellers and bring the dispersed Irish home, with a calendar full of events to make Ireland “very exciting” throughout the year.
